I sent an email out to the MVC beat writers asking several questions. I will post the first question today and see what the fans think. Tomorrow I will post the answers they gave.

Question 1:
If you were the athletic director of an MVC school and could hire any current MVC mens basketball coach (other than the one you follow) to lead your program, who would you hire? (may list up to 3 names)

To be honest, I'll be a little surprised if everyone answers that particular question. Perhaps not being able to choose your guy makes it more palatable.

I'd best the 4 most common answers were

Jacobson
Marshall
Lansing
McDermott

Likely in that order...maybe switch Lansing and McDermott

Names I expect to see the least
Phelps
Lusk
Ford
Simmons

Not really sure about any except Phelps....Lusk and Ford simply due to how new they are to the valley.

I'm posting responses right now. I was pretty surprised by one name that wasn't mentioned more often.

I wouldn't be shocked it was Marshall....I don't think his "attitude" is well like by many outside of WSU.

My take: There are many excellent head coaches in the Valley, but some have longer tenures and, therefore, a longer list of accomplishments. If I were looking to hire a coach, it would be hard to pass up the resume of Ben Jacobson at Northern Iowa – consecutive MVC regular season titles in 08-09 and 09-10, plus a trip to the Sweet 16 in just six years at the helm. The job Gregg Marshall has done at Wichita State is equally impressive. Consider this for a moment: The Shockers have improved their finish in the MVC every year of his tenure in (9th, 5th, 2nd, 2nd, 1st). Creighton’s Greg McDermott has taken two MVC teams (UNI, CU) to the NCAAs and has won Arch Madness at both schools, but has never won an outright MVC regular season title.

My Top 3:
1) Ben Jacobson – Northern Iowa
2) Gregg Marshall – Wichita State
3) Greg McDermott – Creighton
