Beane to SIU, SIU also adds recruit

Postby landmark » May 18th, 2012, 11:18 am

Anthony Beane will be named to Barry Hinson's staff this afternoon, his son was also release by isu from his nli and we might see another father/son situation.

SIU also has gotten a commitment from Jalen Pendelton a 6'2 guard from Evansville Bosse

Let me get this straight.

Beane had signed a LOI with Illinois St. Beane's dad gets hired by SIU. Beane wants to go play for dad at SIU. ISU lets Beane out of scholarship without controversy, complaints or a complete meltdown by their fanbase. Beane will not have to sit out a year (or more), but is eligible to play immediately.

THE HORROR! How could SIU do such a thing? Do they not have any ethics? Isn't SIU mistreating ISU or exploiting a relationship? Doesn't the Beane kid know how to live up to a commitment? Why is the commissioner not stepping in here? How can he possibly let this go on? Doesn't he understand how unfair this is for ISU? Why does SIU get all of the breaks in this conference?

Congrats to ISU for doing the right thing and not overreacting. It is nice to see the ISU fanbase acting in a mature way about this as well. I'm sure all other schools in the conference would be just as mature if presented with a similar situation.

A little surprised about Pendleton to SIU. Having seen him play, but not knowing what he wanted to do, I figured he'd go play D2 football - he was an above average running QB.

It's all good. We have our eyes on another recruit. I think his name is Van Vleet.

If he wanted a release I'm sure WSU would grant it. Not to the Valley, it's not like WSU basically fired his dad after the head coach left, keep dreaming though.

As far as CU/UNI and the ISU/SIU situation any objective person has to admit they are totally different.

CU/UNI: UNI signs McD because Dad is too scared to sign him at Iowa State. Dad leaves to avoid being fired the following year and then takes his kid. So it's not like UNI fired the dad and the kid left.

ISU/SIU: ISU signs beane because his father works as an assistant there. Head coach leaves and new coach wants his own assistants. So basically Beane is let go, what kind of D move would it be not to let his son out of his release after booting the father?

With all that said nothing illegal took place with the CU/UNI deal, just distasteful. However who wants to be the guy saying a kid can't go play for his father. Just tougher to swallow when the father wasn't wanting the kid just a few months earlier. So I don't have a problem with it but if I was a UNI fan I would be bitter and if I was a CU fan I would be indifferent to it.

It was a joke obviously however, if Van Vleet hasn't enrolled yet, I don't think WSU could really stop him from going wherever he wants (I guess technically they could). It would be bad form on the kids part to do that to WSU, but it would also be bad form on WSU's part not to grant his release to any school.

We granted Moore his release to only BCS schools, but the difference is that he has already been enrolled at ISU and played for a season. Van Vleet nor Beane, nor McDermott had done anything yet.

Funny how these things work out and the inconsistency involved in the final decision making . Hinson gets the benefit of another MVC school being willing to release a recruit to play for him. While not the same situation , he had just finished denying Travis Wilkins the opportunity to play for MSU when he asked for his release from SIU. No dads involved, but Wilikins is from Willard Missouri [about 6 miles outside Springfield ] and would have been playing in front of family and friends if allowed to sign with MSU. JMO but I think anytime a coaching change takes place prior to a player even having enrolled and/or played at the original signing University, that player should be free to sign anywhere they want unrestricted. Remember, it's supposed to be about the student athlete.

What? I'm sorry was Moore transferring to another Valley team? Did WSU's head coach just leave? Moore, Beane, McDermott, and Van Vleet are all 4 different situations, especially Van Vleet since he is still coming to WSU. Besides like I said before I'm sure Marshall would release him, just no Valley schools and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
