My point was newspapers are probably still willing to send someone to the Big Ten or Big XII media day, but not also the MVC. Most of us are in media markets that overlap one of the BCS schools.

If this is coming from some schools, I'm guessing it's less about money and more likely because some of the coaches find the excercise to be pointless. Give up a day and a half of practice, recruiting, whatever to go down to the league office and have other MVC beat reporters ask a bunch of questions that could be asked over the weekly teleconference?

If this was an event that was heavily covered by national media or something I could understand continuing it, but in this day and age, the Media Day event seems a bit like a dinasour.

Sullentrop wrote about Media Day getting canceled on the Shockwaves blog.

He blames TV not caring about MVC Media Day ultimately for it getting canceled.

Todd Golden tweeted about this also and blamed the coaches and SIDs. Regardless of where blame is placed, it's unfortunate the media day and luncheon were cancelled in my opinion.

Evansville has staged a media day in at Roberts Stadium/Ford Center for at least as long as Marty has been coach. I don't think any Evansville media travelled to StL last year for media day, despite the short trip.
