Greatest Coach in MVC history?

Postby the valley boys » July 30th, 2012, 7:26 pm

I am not sure such a list exists, and if so someone can enlighten me as to its contents, but until then let's see what we can come up with our own. Just a couple of rules: 1. Only coaches who's team they coached must currently be in the MVC. 2. They can either me deceased, currently coaching, or retired. We'll start with that and just see how things develop. Looking forward to your nominations.

Would have to think Maury John of Drake would be very high on that list.

While a great Coach, and correct me if I am wrong, I believe Coach Wooden never coached in the MVC. In addition, while his accomplishments were significant at Indiana State, I don't think his two years at ISUB would get him even in the top 5. Heck, they might not even make the top 10 MVC Coaches list.

FWIW- Wooden isn't listed by the MVC as one of the greatest coaches in conference history. Phog Allen and Henry Iba are so they probably need to be a the top of the list.

Neither's team is currently in the MVC.

Where does Altman rank? Eddie Sutton coached at Creighton too. They've got to be on the list.

The thread author listed the criteria:
1. Only coaches who's team they coached must currently be in the MVC.
2. They can either me deceased, currently coaching, or retired.

John Wooden makes both criteria. Allen and Iba do not. I checked the criteria twice before posting; that said, Wooden is #1.

Then we might as well add Norm Stewart to the list.
