I will open the voting for Valley FOY and NOY later this week. Let me know who you think the most likely candidates will be.

For UNI, I would nominate Matt Bohannon, RFr guard.

Bears will have 6 freshman among their top 10; four I believe will have a shot at playing well enough to garner some serious consideration. Foremost because he stands to play the most, plays an important position, and is very talented is 6'2 rs pg Dorrian Williams . Right behind him are fellow rs frosh 6'7 pf Drew Wilson, more a rebounder and defensive specialist at present, and two very talented true frosh, 6'3 guard Marcus Marshall and 6'7 forward Gavin Thurman. 6'5 wing Mike Simpson and 6'10 post Bruce Marshall, a Parade All-American,will play but are not as likely to see the minutes or be currently as ready as the other 4.

Dorrian has a strong build, long arms, and is deceptively fast up and down the court. Wilson can run and jump with the best. MM can flat score, and Thurman is very skilled for his size. They have to play, so hopefully a couple are ready to do so well.

It will be interesting to see if our new guys get the minutes they'd need to compile stats big enough to win these types of awards.

Likely not - often even our best statistical performer doesn't have "great" numbers

Very true, Tuttle won the award last year likely due to his efficiency and was benefited by the fact that we had almost no post presence going into last season. His numbers were not eye popping by any means
[Insert snappy comeback]

Drake figures to have 2 newcomers in the starting lineup, and another few will get a lot of minutes.

Most likely candidates for NOY and FOY:

NOY: Richard Carter, with Chris Hines also a possibility

FOY: Joey King, Kori Babineaux and Micah Mason are all possibilities.

Freshman for Creighton will have a hard time getting minutes.

Only chance for CU in these awards as of right now would be Nevin Johnson.

At Wichita State, VanVleet will have a shot at FOY if the minutes are there. Ron Baker, if reports are true that he is competing with Demetric Williams for a starting position, is a dark horse. For NOY, Malcolm Armstead is a shoe in to be on the All New-Comer Team, unless VanVleet beats him out by the new year. Nick Wiggins and Cleanthony Early have minutes available and talent necessary to win the award. We will see if they are able to adjust quick enough to have the statistical impact required of a NOY.

Desmar Jackson at SIU is probably the New-Comer to beat in the Valley.

I'll go out on that limb and say Fred VanVleet of Wichita and Kaza Keane of ISU Red are a couple FOY candidates.
