Did Gottleib tell Baker he is overrated and doesn't deserve a D-1 scholarship?

No matter how much he scores, however, VanVleet is the rare basketball player who won’t be defined by his shooting. His leadership, his ball-handling and his will to win make him valuable regardless of his other contributions.

MVC coaches are generous with their praise and slightly envious of Marshall for putting his team in the hands of VanVleet, who handed out a career-high 10 assists in Wednesday’s win over Illinois State, until 2016.

“His competitiveness and wanting to be around the ball and diving on the floor and digging his nose in there — he’s got that part of it and that makes guys good,” Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson said. “And I think that’s part of why he scores. He’s got some of those intangibles … and those intangibles allow you to make tough plays, they allow you to make big plays.”

They are BOTH winners! Shockers are fortunate to have them together for 2 and a half more years!

If WSU fans put all the national articles about VanVleet or Baker in this thread, it would be overkill, but I thought I'd add this one

The Shockers lead the MVC in shooting defense in conference games, holding opponents to 38.3 percent. VanVleet is averaging 16.6 points in Valley games. His assist-to-turnover ratio of 9.0 in confernence games is first, leading second-place Odum’s 3.9. VanVleet has 27 assists and three turnovers in MVC play.

Noticed an interesting line in the recent Sports Illustrated profile on Fred Van Vleet:

His Win Shares total – an estimation of how many victories a player’s offensive and defensive contributions are worth – is 4.6, seventh in the country. By comparison, Creighton’s Doug McDermott has a Win Shares total of 4.5.

http://college-basketball.si.com/2014/0 ... ana-state/

I couldn't find a complete list of win-shares for every player in the country but I found the top 20 at least:

http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sea ... aders.html

Looks like FVV has improved to 4.7 since the article was written, but he's now tied with McDermott for 9th place.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find Lemon's win-share numbers, or his SI profile, to compare >=)
