And as I read elsewhere (I couldn't even tell you where any more) that pre-condition was set, because the initial idea behind bringing the CUSA schools Cinci, Louisville, DePaul and Marquette was to do two things:

1) Solidify the league's football to maintain its BCS autobid
2) Align two additional hoops-first schools with the other non-football members with the idea they would go on their own

But when the league started getting 8, 9, 10 NCAA bids, they never left.

So I imagine the pre-conditions and league name are in direct conflict with one another and set up a very entertaining legal battle.

I suppose this answers my question:

@McMurphyESPN
7 hoops schools can leave Big East June 30, 2015 w/out paying exit fee. To leave earlier would have to negotiate fee w/Big East

From Jonathan Lintner:

UPDATE: After checking again with athletic director John Stanley and a number of UE athletic officials Saturday at the Ford Center, it’s now obvious that reports of the Aces to the Horizon League were unfounded.

Missouri Valley Conference presidents will conference sometime this weekend to discuss Creighton’s future now that the Big East Conference’s seven basketball-only schools have made their intention to leave official.

Not sure: here is what I saw St. John's president Rev. Donald J. Harrington has scheduled a news conference at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Big East spokesperson John Paquette told ESPN.com the seven schools will leave on June 30, 2015, per conference bylaws.

So, the new conference probably won't take shape until 2014. No conference is going to let a school park itself with an intention to leave for two years. The Horizon and CAA effectively kicked out Butler and VCU, respectively this summer, one year before their scheduled move to the A10.

Interesting. If the conference presidents get together tomorrow as reported, any chance they raise the exit fees for anyone leaving the conference?
