Braves at Shox - 1/26

Postby shoxrox » January 26th, 2013, 9:12 pm

WSU wins 73-39. A pretty balanced attack tonight.

Shox one of the few ranked teams to avoid a loss this week.

Surely that's a typo?

EDIT: Apparently it is not. I thought BU was miles ahead of last year, but maybe not.

Nope. Starters had 8 more minutes in total than the bench tonight. Just was one of those nights.. Very good defensive effort and the offense, which had been pretty ugly the past few games, finally came around.

No player scored more than 12.

Bradley is much improved from last year. Ford has them going in the right direction. In the second half, WSU just looked like a legitimate top-20 team (that half may have looked like a top-10 team) and the Braves seemed to run out of gas.

38 bench points, but WSU's bench (even with two starters out) is Hall, Wiggins (12 points 3/3 from 3), White (11 points 9 boards in 17 minutes), VanVleet (5 assists, 1 TO), and Lufile.

+23 on the boards gives the Braves a clue as to what they need to work on.

I feel like Lemon will likely not be repeating as Valley POW after that amazing performance.

That was probably the most dominating performance by WSU all season. Shot over 50%, held Bradley to nearly 30% shooting.

If the Shockers had a decent night with FTs (shot just 60%), they would have easily doubled Bradley's score.

As for Bradley, they looked good until the final minutes of the first half. As for the second half, I don't know what you can say. WSU looked like a national championship team from about 2 minutes to go in the first through the end of the game. Bradley got run over by a truck.

Not a bad outing for a coach who is "in over his head in this conference".

Jake White - 6 offensive rebounds
Entire Bradley Team - 5 offensive rebounds
Random MVCFans.com member, circa 2007: "Gregg Marshall is in over his head in this conference."

Impressive win Shox. I literally did a double take last night when I saw the score.

Wichita State is really, really good. Players 7, 8 and 9 (Van Fleet, Wiggins and White) would play 30 minutes a game for Bradley. Walt Lemon is the only Bradley player who would see major minutes for the Shox.

That said--Bradley is moving in the right direction. Geno Ford knows what he is doing. He knows the type of players he wants (see the Wichita roster). Getting them will be a different story. BU still defends pretty well. Not having Will Egolf hurts this team alot because the interior players after that are mostly D2 and D3 caliber guys.

Wichita is the best team in the league, IMO.

VanVleet, Wiggins, and White are very good players as the 7/8/9 guys on the roster. They were supposed to be the 9/10/11 guys as Cotton and Williams have stepped in as starters with Baker and Wessel out. Lemon is a very good player and would play a lot at WSU.

I like what Ford is doing in Peoria and feel it will only be a matter of time for him.

It's all about Tuesday night for Bradley. This BU roster isn't going to win in Wichita or most places in the Valley
