The Horizon lost Butler and did NOTHING at all, and now they have 3 members that are candidates for inclusion into the MVC. I can't decide if it's better for the MVC to sit at 9 for a year (and risk being picked apart in 2014), add one school from the Horizon and stay at 10, or add all 3 Horizon schools and settle at 12? There are pros and cons to every scenario. The MVC presidents have a difficult decision to make.

It doesn't appear there are going to be any better candidates to add in 2014 since St. Louis and Dayton apparently aren't going to be options. So I am guessing something will happen here in a few weeks.

I say add one and see what happens when the dust settles in a little over a year.

His reading comprehension is poor. Here is a link to Kerkhoff's March 31st column.

Once again, the Valley will add--at most--one school.

Could UMKC be added as a temporary placeholder to get to 10 next year, with no guarantee to stay in the conference beyond 2014? Sort of a provisional member to balance the schedule until the Dayton/SLU dust settles. I mean, what would they have to lose, as the WAC is barely hanging by a thread as it is, so it's not like they have long term stability there anyway.

More likely the other way around, don't you think? SLU in the Valley until they leave for an expanded Big East? The MVC certainly isn't the Billikens' dream conference.

UMKC Blows... why the hell would we add them. It would be embarrassing for the Valley.

Elgin needs to be aggressive, but UMKC would be a total joke.

Granted, some of you guys think that the Valley would experience a huge drop off in prestige, rpi, conference status, etc. if UIC was to get an invite. Maybe that will be the case, but then again, maybe not. At any rate, I can't understand for the life of me why some of you are still talking about waiting to see what the Big East will do about St. Louis and Dayton. Why? It appears to me (and ALL of us are on the outside looking in) that there has been some obvious talk between the new Big East, SLU and Dayton and there has be some agreement for those two to stay in the A-10 for another year. For whatever reason the Big East is not allowing all 5 candidates in at this time. That still doesn't mean that SLU and Dayton would move to the MVC. Why would they when it would be to them, a lateral move at best without the A-10 having Butler and Xavier and the Valley minus Creighton. So they'll just wait for now. So just deal with the prospect that the Missouri Valley Conference might just add 1-3 teams that most of you are not going to be satisfied with until they prove themselves!

Forget RPI for a minute. Look at the SOS (Strength of Schedule) ratings. UNKC SOS was 138. Bradley SOS was 215, SIU was 170, ILS was 116, WSU was 102, Evansville 101. MSU with am RPI of 204 had an SOS of 67. UNI had the best SOS with a 37. The SOS can tell who played the better schedule. UMKC evidently played better teams than at least 2 current MVC teams, and not far behind 2 or 3 other teams.

One more time, membership will better both the RPI and SOS of UMKC--if it does not than the MVC is grossly over rated. We all know it has been a two team conference the last ??? few year--usually CU and WSU---occassionally a breakin by a one year fllash-in-the-pan--I donot recall a 2 year in a row run by anyone other than CU and WSU.

What is ironic about MVC numbers and ratins is MSU. The lowest 2013 RPI (204), but the 3rd best SOS.
