Counting today's latest commit 7-1, JUCO center Deng Leek (has to pass one summer class to be eligible), SIU has a full complement of 13 scholarship players plus one walk-on who played substantial minutes available for next season, so I'd disagree that depth is the biggest weakness. No scholarship seniors and dicey interior scoring are bigger concerns. That said, assuming the rest of the offseason goes well, there will be some optimism in Carbondale for this group.

Most teams have 13 scholarship players and some walk-ons. That doesn't mean they have depth.

But seriously, glad to see Barry brought in some guys he'll have to look up to in the huddle. I think SIU will be in the midst of the very-improved 3-7 group in the league this year, hopefully starting that improved performance in the non-conference.

I was referring to known quality depth. I assumed there would 13 scholarship players. Nice late additions though!

I get what you're saying. When you have eight or nine newcomers, there are a lot of unknown commodities. That said, I still feel pretty good from a depth standpoint. Hinson decided to shed what he considered dead weight on the roster (Fillyaw, Balogun kicked to the curb ... so much for Mr. Nice Guy) and it's generally believed that better talent is coming into the program. I'm pretty confident they'll be able to develop a nice 9 or 10 man rotation with what they have, and they'll have the luxury of redshirting a couple guys if they want.

I pulled my info off verbalcommits.com. I imagine if you check the site, you'd see how I got my misinformation.
