From what I'm hearing, he didn't have the strongest draft combine. I think that's why a lot of the top guys in the draft didn't do the combine. They didn't want to hurt their stock.

Per Bleacherreport that is correct. He did very well in the athletic drills like agility and vertical, but not great in the shooting drills.

Hmmmm just as I predicted... 2nd round. Baker has a long way to go if Early is getting picked in the 2nd round. Not knocking the guy. I hope he represents the MVC well but the NBA is a completely different ball game.

There were a lot of things that happened that led to Early being in the 2nd round, not the least of which was the deepest draft in at least a decade. He also fell below his talent level, and basically every publication in the country proceeded to call him the 'steal' of the draft. Early is just outside the lottery in most drafts.

Also, I loved Early, and he was a tremendous player and athlete, but Baker is better at basketball. That doesn't mean he'll go in the first round, or even get drafted at all, but I'm pretty sure his talent will get him a pretty serious look.

It also hurt Early that most of the teams the last 1/2-1/-3 of the first round had no cap space and were drafting to stash players/picks.

Right. I don't know enough about the draft, but I would make a guess that that sort of thing is fairly typical late in the first round. He was probably 20-25 talent this year, and went 34 because of the deep draft and cap space issues. In basically any other year, he's drafted before they get to those types of picks.

Should be great though. I'm glad he's getting a chance, and in his hometown in front of his mom. Great stuff.

The only thing matthewson10 "predicted" in this thread is that there is no chance Ron Baker gets drafted and he will be stuck grinding in Europe his entire career.

Meanwhile, Ford's Board at ESPN recently upgraded Baker to #19 in his projected 2015 NBA Draft. So, ummmm, yeah.

I hear he's playing very well at LeBron's camp via some different tweets I've seen

This is really cool. Early went to the Durant camp for wings last year. Baker and FVV are spending most of their summer at these camps.

Lots of comments of surprise at Baker's measurables. Apparently everyone thinks the WSU roster is full of $hit just because they aren't a BCS squad. 6'4" 222lb with a 6'8.5" wingspan. The dude is way more of an athlete than people assume. But I guess some people think Cotton isn't overly athletic and can't shoot, too.

I'm really hoping he has a completely injury-free year so we can finally judge him as a leaper. My guess is well above average for his position in the NCAA, and well below average for his position in the NBA.
