A conference like the Big East would be interesting,... And once again no true rival.

The AAC would be another possibility, but same concerns apply as the big east conference.

That seems like an odd point considering we clearly don't have a rival in the Valley anymore. Creighton was our "rival." Tulsa was our rival.

Sure, there's other teams that become defacto rivals when we're both good, but there's no true rivalry with anyone in the conference. A rivalry by its nature matters when both teams are good, both are bad, one is good and one is bad, etc.

We'd have more of a "true rival" in either the Big East or the AAC than we have in the Valley.

It's always fun to bring old threads back from the dead. I'm good with the AAC. So which one of you is RichyRich?

The delusion of Shox fans regarding possible conference realignment opportunities is only trumped by the Bears fans' sealed envelopes.

Wasn't sure where to put this but North Dakota just changed their name from Fighting Sioux to Fighting Hawks.

Probably doesn't affect the MVC.

It does, however, make me think there is a 75% chance they now get into the Summit and MVFC and leave the Big Sky. Part of the reason they didn't get that route from the start is the nickname issue

I'm pretty certain MSU is going to get an invite to an FBS conference.

Just kidding.

it really is too bad YSU can't find a closer league than the MVFC, they just aren't very competitive any more in football, heck, they've even become our whipping boys as we've beaten them 4 of the last 6 meetings.

If they stay and we add UND (which I don't see happening, us, SIU, MSU, ILS et al...would never vote for it.) then we'd probably add a 12th team and go to 2 divisions (which might actually not be a bad idea).

Issue with 12 is how to split it and maintain competitive balance due to no title game being an option and the west being clearly superior (obvious way to split) with UNI, SDSU, NDSU, likey WIU, ISUr and then dog crap MSU.

UNI has beaten YSU 14 of the last 15, or something like that.

They are way out of the foot print, no natural rivals, don't get into the playoffs, and really bring nothing to the table outside of being giant cry babies. They need to head to the CAA pronto.

Did you mean to exclude USD? Although you could still argue they are on more of an upswing than any of the "eastern" schools + MSU.

Interesting in that from the Big Sky perspective, the conference is kind of bursting at the seams and might not mind losing UND just to balance out the league a bit.

In a perfect world, Youngstown goes east to take a spot in a league where numbers are dwindling, and UND comes in.

As for the western division being loaded, Western Illinois just got an at-large bid at 6-5 into the FCS playoffs, so that might actually work to the MVCF's benefit. They'd be the FCS equivalent of the SEC West, only actually good.

On that note, it is worth mentioning that the Basketball Tourney is not the only place where seeding and match-ups are screwy. After an All-MVFC championship game last January, 5 Valley teams made the football play-offs and ALL 5 were placed on the same side of the bracket. Committee couldn't have a repeat of last year.
