I was putting together some notes for Mike Kern in the MVC office this morning and I figured it would be a good time to inquire with each fan base as to your respective freshman and newcomers. We will vote on FOY and NOY next month, but how would you categorize each of your new players?

Likely starter / major contributor:

Non-starter, but will play significant minutes:

Bench player (<10 min per game):

Likely redshirt:

Isur-my predictions, I believe we have the NOY on our roster being either Hawkins, McIntosh, or Purcell

Freshman: Mikyle McIntosh: significant minutes-May or may not start
Teddy Hawkins: Significant minutes-likely starter

Newcomers:
Justin McCloud: Non-Starter-somewhere in between bench player and significant minutes, he'll play the "shooter" role
Will Ransom-Non-starter-significant minutes, probably backup power forward
Devaughn Purcell: Significant minutes-may or may not start
Mark Hall: Bench player

Of the six incoming freshman I expect Timmer and Orogundade to have a chance at cracking the starting lineup at some point. It's possible that Timmer might start from day one.

Likely starter / major contributor:
Freshman PG- Reed Timmer
Freshman SG- Ore Arogundade

Non-starter, but will play significant minutes:
Freshman C-Kory Kuenstling is really our only backup at center.

Bench player (<10 min per game):
Freshman PG-CJ Rivers
Freshman Walkon PG- Dom Aducci

Likely redshirt:
Freshman SF-Casey Schlatter (Needs to put on some muscle)

Tough call for WSU with so many newcomers, but my best guess:

Non starter big minutes: Zach Brown, Rauno Nurger

Bench minutes: Corey Henderson Jr., Rashard Kelly, Shaq Morris, Ri'an Holland, Tevin Glass, Tom Wamukota

No redshirts

Obviously we're looking for a 5th starter and that's really up in the air right now. It really could be any one of Nurger, Wamukota, Glass, Kelly or Morris (or Wessel). I can't see Brown replacing one of the big 3 (he's not a 4 or 5) and no way Holland does nor Henderson, barring some tragic occurrences.

The only way to do this for WSU is just guess.

Likely starter / major contributor:

Non-starter, but will play significant minutes:
Rauno Nurger (6'10" Fr)
Rashard Kelly (6'7" Fr)
Zach Brown (6'6" Fr)
Tevin Glass (6'8" Juco)
Shaq Morris (6'7" RFr)

Bench player (<10 min per game):
Corey Henderson (6'3" Fr)
Ri'an Hollnd (6'0" RFr)
Bush Wamukota (7' Juco)

Chances are overwhelming one of the guys in the "Non-starter..." category will start. With Wamukota, everything depends on his learning curve. If I've got to go with one of the non-starters to move up, I'd go with Nurger by the time Valley season starts. He's in the spot where there's the huge hole in the lineup, nd the guy has some serious skills. Unfortunately, none of those skills will include "Being A D1 Basketball Player".
Likely redshirt:

I think BC misunderstood the intent of the original post, so I will try and clear it up with just our new players

Likely starter / major contributor:
Paul Jesperson 6'6" G Jr.- sat out last year at transferring from Virginia. Was a 2-year starter there, so highly likely he starts here, just don't know which guard he replaces

Non-starter, but will play significant minutes:
Bennett Koch 6'9" F RSFr.-the last of the Koch brothers, not sure I buy the 6'9" thing (taller) but will play in the post where we don't have as much depth
Wyatt Lohaus 6'2" G Fr.-our only incoming true freshman, if he doesn't redshirt, I expect him to play quite a bit

Bench player (<10 min per game):
Klint Carlson 6'7" F RSFr.-a good size body, but more of a big 3, small 4. May play more if he can show he can handle inside play
Robert Knar 6'1" G RSFr.-an "Ali-like" shooter but has had knee surgeries each of the last two years, may not be fully ready and we have depth in bunches with guards
There are two juco Jrs that are guards that will likely only see very spot minutes

Likely redshirt:

Agree with this, except I think CJ Rivers and Dom Adduci could both redshirt, too.

A WSU newcomer/freshman will almost definitely start. Just not sure which one. Two additional freshman/newcomers will play a lot in the post.
