Drake and Loyola were pretty easy. I didn't pick Bradley for 8th, but I see why they were chosen there. 7th place could finish 8-10 or 9-9, and I see 4 teams that could easily end up with that record.

Southern Illinois was my pick. It has nothing to do with Barry but I just don't think they have enough talent to hang in the top half yet.

I also picked Southern as I feel that they grossly overachieved last year despite the obvious youthful talent.

I decided to credit that over-achievement to Barry, as compared to the rest of the coaches in the lower half. I'll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt to at least not finish in the bottom 4 now that he has his guys playing for him. Time will tell if I'm overvaluing Hinson. But the margin is generally quite small between between 4th and 7th, so picking SIU here doesn't seem crazy.

With the frontcourt of Smith/Gant/Kitchell, I think Greg Lansing is good enough coach to keep Indy state out of Thursday play although he will be tested without JO to run the point. I'd have to go SIU (They defintely overacheived last year)

I would rather put my money on the coach that had his team overachieving the first year he had some of his players in place than a coach that had his team underachieving the past 2 years when he had his players in place.

I think this is a relevant place for this question: Who will be missed more; Jake Odum or Desmar Jackson? Jake's team finished 12-6; 23-11. Desmar's team finished 9-9; 14-19.

Of course Jake was first team and Desmar was second team, but I'd be willing to bet that the awards were based more on finish than on value. Was Jake REALLY worth 9 more wins to ISU than Desmar was to SIU?

Hell no. Des was one of the most underrated players in recent memory. Far from perfect but he took a ton of heat from siu fans. Imo that heat was not warranted. He could defend multiple positions and had the total focus of opposing defenses. Beane will surely miss him bc now he will be the sole focus for the opponent.

Since it was an either/or question, I'm going to mark that as one vote for Des.
