MVC Conference RPI Rank

We're getting close to the end of the OOC so this is starting to become a little more static.

Through games on Tuesday, 12/16/14 and per WarrenNolan.com:

1) Big 12 .6099
2) Big East .5831
3) SEC .5796
4) Big Ten .5717
5) ACC .5683
6) PAC 12 .5610
7) A-10 .5451
8) AAC .5227
9) MWC .5206
10) MVC .5200
11) Horizon .5175
12) WCC .5174
13) Colonial .5012
14) MAC .4936

November was bleak for the league but December has actually been quite good. It would be great if we could jump at least the MWC in the next couple weeks, and passing the AAC as well isn't much of a stretch.

Keep it rolling MVC teams!

The Valley has 4 top-100 teams, 2 of those are top-25 teams. There are 2 in the 100's range and then 4 that are 280+.

Any of the top 4-6 who lose to any of the 280+ teams will see their rpi plummet. That will probably knock Loyola (at 82) out of top-100. Illinois State has a little more breathing room at 54, but may struggle to stay in the top-100.

rpi only matters for the NCAA's and the NIT. UNI and WSU are looking like at-large NCAA teams. Wins against top-100 teams and top-50 teams are big considerations for invites and seedings in the NCAA tourney. Loyola and IlSU staying in the top-100 would be huge. IlSU could be an NIT team, but that's not looking promising.

Any of the top teams losing to any of the bottom might be basis for elimination from either the NCAA or the NIT tourneys.

League rpi is nothing more nor less than the average of the rpi's of the teams in the league. This year the Valley is skewed to the high and low ends. Having 4 teams in the top 100 is on the low side for the Valley's recent history. Having 4 teams at 280+ is to the Valley as an iceberg was to the Titanic.

One team in the polls and one receiving votes is a good year for the Valley. 4 teams in the rpi territory where Valley teams normally be select the opponents to pay for a visit to their campus is a bad year for the Valley.

This is stated all the time and it is just simply not true. The RPI formula is (WP * 0.25) + (OWP * 0.50) + (OOWP * 0.25), there is nothing in there about record vs 300+ teams. A loss to Drake is exactly the same as a loss to Wichita State in terms of the RPI.

It is true that losing to one of the bottom-feeders might kill at-large chances, but it won't kill your RPI.

Wow, this is better than I would've guessed. Even just pushing up to 9 would be a big boost. Showing the conference moving in the right direction would be a great thing. A killer 3 weeks and 8-9th is doable. A bad 3 weeks and hello 12th. Big stretch for the Valley. Somehow the league has set itself up to have a chance.

True, just having those teams on the schedule at all kills your RPI, whether you win or lose.

Don't worry, Bradley will be healthy soon and we'll be a RPI 275 team playing like a RPI 125 team.

You're welcome, Valley!

That's the s*** that hurts the conference.

If you are going to be garbage OOC...be garbage in conference.
