This video proves how large the t-shirt fan population is surrounding Lawrence. Funny that in one of the clips it appears a yellow-clad WSU fan recognized who Ali was and was pointing him out.

Nicely done, World-Herald. Nicely done.

Awesome article.

This quote though says so much about this game:

What would you say to him, I asked. Self thought for a moment.

“It was actually a terrible shot. Early in the shot clock. What were they up, one? Terrible shot. He did exactly what we wanted him to do.

“But he made the play, so give him props for that.”

It's amazing how different things can turn out over something so small. Ali did take that shot too early. If he had missed, he would have been cursed forever in UNI history.

And he made it, and instead he goes down as a hero for all time.

Fractions of inches can change so much in this game.

It's so true. In his mind there was absolutely no doubt he was going to make the shot and seal the game. When doubt creeps in, you're done. But sometimes even when you have no doubt you still miss the shot, and that would have been unbelievably painful.

Dan Bonner's "you can't be serious with that shot" was perfect and helps to make the moment one of the best in tournament history.

Thanks for posting. One of my favorite games in NCAA tournament history. Nice to know what Ali is up to now.

To be fair to Ali there was about a 7 second differential between game clock and shot clock so we were going to have to take a shot at some point and he was wide open.

Risky? Absolutely. Dumb? Nah.
