There are good conferences that don't sponsor football. There are also good football conferences that might consider a basketball only addition. If only we had FCS football! All the P5s are chomping at the bit.

Who are we really talking about?
Big East - Not reaching to Kansas for a state school
A-10 - Not reaching to Kansas
AAC/MWC - All football schools

If you had NDSU's program with your facilities and fanbase, the MWC would be a very real possibility.

So, again, outside of WSU you are left with the bottom half of the conference

Who is going to replace those teams? You aren't getting another UNI. UAB is probably most similar to a Missouri State (sans the giant mess they have with Marshall leaving).

Again, is a conference of Bradley, Drake, Loyola, Evansville, Belmont, ORU, Valpo, and some combo of Denver/UI-Chicago/Milkwaukee enough to attract UAB? Hell, is it enough to keep WSU....and that's assuming you can bring all of those in and not have to dip into the SIU-Edwardsville's of the world.

It sounds really nice, in theory, to you non-football schools to say "GET RID OF FOOTBALL SCHOOLS...BASKETBALL ONLY!!!!" until you have to start figuring the logistics and getting back AT LEAST what you're losing.

After WSU your next biggest draw/bragging piece is Bradley was good in 2005-2006. At least with the football schools you have UNI and most years one of ISUb, ISUr or MSU is respectable.

When did people say "get rid of football schools"?

Seems like it was more likely someone said "some schools should get rid of football."

I personally would be fine with all of the Football schools leaving and being replaced with non-football schools. In the long run that is the only way to build a basketball conference above the other mid-majors. If the Valley wasn't such a hodge podge of schools they might even be able to attract the good Midwest basketball schools who are playing way out of their geographical area.

Funny thing...Drake is actually a football school and one of the 2 worst programs of the last decade. Only difference is the only one worse has shown signs of life while Drake really hasn't.

I also like the part about "look at the crappy league that will be left if all the football schools leave."

Leave for where? Are they going to create some awesome FCS conference with terrible Olympic sports, including basketball? Cause have fun with that.

Like it or not, basically all of the schools currently in the MVC are still here at this point because there aren't really any better options out there. The only thing left to do is do the best with what we have.

Have you no mercy? I already told you that the Drake fan base cares deeply about our non-scholarship football team so please stop hurting our feelings.

Who will you take down next, Club Lacrosse? :(

Drake is a football school?

That's news to probably....everyone? at Drake.

I figured we had a football team just to keep the stadium from getting dusty between Relays.

That's nice and all, but I'm really only interested in what programs have done to increase the profile of the league. I thought someone was going to count Sweet 16s?

You're not going to raise the profile of the league by losing 2 of the 3 non WSU schools to have a S16 (going back decades isn't an argument).

You're not going to raise the profile of the league by losing 4 top half programs and replacing them with small private colleges that are equivalent to Evansville and Loyola.

The MVFC schools need the MVC and the MVC needs them. I would argue that the MVC, at this point, needs the MVFC schools more than the MVFC needs the MVC.

Let's pretend the MVFC gives up power to the Summit but the Summit wants to keep things as is but take the MVC schools with it. That league is, minus WSU, is better than what's left in the MVC.
