UNI and Jacobson

This deserves a thread.

UNI giving Jacobson a 10-year deal starting at $1 mill is one of the best things that's happened to the Valley (and UNI) recently. Jacobson is an absolute 100% class act and a great coach.

Jacobson has been in a bit of a cyclical pattern of having great teams when he gets a team that's mostly Sr's. That's the first step to moving a Valley team up in the national picture.

Repeated success and coaching longevity opens recruiting doors. That can even out the classes a bit and start a pattern of reloading instead of rebuilding.

UNI and Jacobson are on the right track and I see a lot of good things in UNI's future. I think Jacobson is going to join an ever-increasing number of coaches who are happy not coaching in a P5 if they are appreciated and not living in poverty compared to comparable D1 coaches.

Been discussed many times over the years...

UNI was on pace for a Valley title in 2011 when O'Rear broke his ankle leaving no post presence for UNI to finish that season.
UNI had a post player, who turned out to be pretty good, decide to go elsewhere that year.
UNI couldn't get the replacement for that guy to work out.
Tuttle came in and stabilized the starting spot for the post but there was no depth
Now there is post depth, again, like there was with Adam K, Jordan E, and Lucas.
Next year we lose Tuttle but there is actually players to fill that spot next year.

I don't expect 30 wins again next season, but going forward there is no reason to think UNI can't be/isn't a 12-13 (or more) Valley win team and 22-24 regular season win team.

Kind of a "perfect storm of crap" the first couple years out of the S16

And we still had 3 straight 20 win seasons including an NIT berth in that 4 year span.

We do need to balance the recruiting classes a little as our guards are Jr's and Sr's and our posts will be Fr/So next year, but I agree with the thought we should still be in the mix.

We will also continue to schedule agressively regardless of the 'youth' factor.

It is not unrealistic to think that if McDermott hadn't fallen through and O'Rear wouldn't have gotten hurt because Jake Koch fouled out on two terrible calls by Eric Curry in a game that was already in hand. That UNI would have just went to its 7th straight NCAA tournament.
