All-Time starting 5's

Man, the offseason sucks. This should keep us entertained, right? Very interested to see other teams' input. Here's my humble opinion on WSU. Only including players that finished their careers at Wichita State.

PG - Fred VanVleet
SG - Ron Baker
SF - Xavier McDaniel
PF - Antoine Carr
C - Cliff Levingston

BENCH
PG - Warren Jabali
SG - Aubrey Sherrod
SF - Cleanthony Early
PF - Cheese Johnson
C - Dave Stallworth

P.S. Fellow WSU fans, please bear in mind that my first team was 2002-03 and I am basing my picks off of my understanding of WSU history, so please don't crucify me! I'm sure some of the more experienced guys can help me out here. I'm just looking for some interesting discussion during a long offseason :)

Good list, but Armstrong/Jaballi was closer to a PF than to a PG. WSU has been VERY heavy in the PF department. The five All-American's honored with retired jersey all played PF. The only other eligible AA is Cleanthony Early, who played PF. Marshall has had a recent slew of great PGs (VanVleet, Amsted, Ragland, Hannah), but historically there are only two or three that were worth remembering. Ranked by actual position played and limited to three per position, excepting for PF:

PG - Fred VanVleet, Greg Carney, Ernie Moore
SG - Aubrey Sherrod, Ron Baker, Jason Perez
SF - Warren Armstrong, Cheese Johnson, Jamie Thompson
PF - Xavier McDaniel, Dave Stallworth, Antoine Carr, Cleo Littleton, Cleanthony Early, Cliff Levingston
C - Robert Elmore, Gene Wiley, Nate Bowman

Edited to replace Paul Miiler with Nate Bowman

Very cool! A lot of those names that aren't hanging on banners are guys that I've been told a lot about, but not terribly informatively (i.e. "He was so much fun to watch," "he was so smooth," "I still haven't seen a guy who could drive like he did," etc). Most of my knowledge comes from having looked at stats in the media guides, especially when I was a kid. Today, I've only had it reiterated that the internet and Wikipedia are full of liars LOL. That's where some of the misinformation came from, like Jabali at PG. I would have loved to have been around to see Shocker basketball from the mid 60's through 80's. But hey, this era isn't too shabby!

And you're right, Cle was a PF. I always forget that. His size and skill set are perfect for my ideal SF if I were a coach. I always have to remind myself he played the 4.

UNI--

PG--Kwadzo Ahelegbe, Dale Turner, Ali Farokhmanesh
SG--Ben Jacobson, Jason Daisy, Cam Johnson
SF--Randy Blocker, Erik Crawford
PF--Adam Koch, Jake Koch, Joe Breakenridge
C---Seth Tuttle, Jason Reese

Even UNI fans are going to disagree with some of this, but if I have to play a game these are the guys I want.

Drake hasn't ever really been a school with overly-prolific centers so I went the Golden State route and went with a small lineup.

Starting 5
1- Curt Smith
2- Willie McCarter
3 - Lewis Lloyd
4 - Dolph Pulliam
5- Willie Wise

The Bench
Adam Emmenecker
Josh Young
Red Murrell
Jeff Haliburton
Bucky Cox

You putting Ali at PG just to get him on there?

I'd go with Bob Netolicky at center, and move Dolph to the bench. I'd also have Melvin Mathis in the mix. Wayne Kreklow would definitely be in the top 10, and even though he's before my time, I'd have to put McCoy McClemore in there somewhere.

Not sure I'd have Emmenecker on the team.
