I think this is about the 5th year in a row ISUb is in the discussion about the play in game and it doesn't happen. I know what happens this season. It's simple. We will have a terrible non-conference against a weak SOS and the we will win the first 5 games of MVC play and drag down the conferences RPI. We'll end up 3rd or 4th in the standings and get beat on Friday. Next!

Eh. There is a very large gap between WSU and the rest of the Valley from a pre-season rankings perspective. There are lots of reasons to believe any one of UE, ISUb, ISUr LUC, and UNI could finish second. There are very few reasons to believe WSU will finish outside of first. Does that mean WSU will win? Absolutely not. It's just not a smart bet to take any other team over WSU.

Remove UE from the equation. Who is your pick for first?

I think my Aces have the talent to finish 2nd but with Marty in charge it's a question. We will definitely have more depth this year in the middle. If Blake gets 30 min a game over Mislav and Wiley it'll be another long and frustrating season.

Great post. I agree that based on roster, UE probably should finish 2nd. Based on Marty, it's seriously anyone's guess.

Really? I have never been disrespectful to UE, perhaps you but not the Aces. I have even been a fairly big UE supporter the last couple of years. Marty has continued to under-utilize Mock, and over-utilize His son and Wing at the 3 and 4. When Marty demonstrates early in the season that he is willing to play more of Mislov and Wiley, I will whole-heartedly put my backing behind UE for second place.

If you feel slighted because I don't see UE (picked 4th by most pre-season mags I've seen) as a clear second place team, that's on you.

One team is in the preseason Top 10 in the nation. Another is getting NIT blurbs.

Nobody knows how the season will actually play out, but on paper and based on the last several years, you shouldn't feel insulted that WSU is again the clear favorite to win the league.

You call it arrogance? I think most will call it realistic.
