#4yearplan

I tell you what...up until about 5 years ago, I would have LOVED to have been on a four year plan! Honestly, I think Jacobson is really on a three year plan with years 3 and 4 being tourney years, depending on injuries and things like Doug McBuckets going home to Daddy; and years 1 and 2 being development years where a 3rd or 4th place finish (pretty damn good) is expected. I'm not counting UNI out of an at large this year; not yet.

Also, look at all the programs in Valley that haven't been to the tournament once in the past 15 years:

LUC - 1985?
ISUr - 1998
UE - 1999
MSU - 1999

Only once:
Bradley - 2006, 1996
Drake - 2008, 1971

Twice:
ISUb - 2011, 2001, 2000

More than twice:

WSU - 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2006, 1988
SIU - 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 1995
UNI- 2015, 2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2004, 1990

WSU, SIU, and UNI are the only schools to demonstrate anything like sustained success this century. We need more schools on the "four year plan"! Its the non-con. Let's go Valley! Let's win every damn game!

I absolutely agree the MVC needs more teams on the 4-year plan. And no one has said UNI hasn't been successful the last 10-15 years.

But we also need another team or two that isn't on the 4-year plan, if we're ever going to get to consistently having 2-3 teams in the NCAA tourney again.

I didn't realize Jacobson wasn't planning on trying to aim to for another NCAA bid this year. It'll be difficult, but I guess if coach is just planning on mailing it in and taking it easy this year since its #Year1 then I'm not sure why he scheduled one of the best non-conference schedules you're likely to find from non-P5 program. Clearly the Panthers are in the mindset of winning some games and making a run at an at-large or another conference title. It's a mighty steep climb without Tuttle, but if it was already decided what was going to happen this year then I'm puzzled as to why we don't just skip straight to the tournament this weekend.
[Insert snappy comeback]

I'm not sure why he did either. Having a really tough non-conference schedule and making the NCAA tournament with an at-large do not necessarily go hand in hand. UNI had a tough non-con schedule in 2013 and came out of it 6-6 against D1 opponents. UNI had a tough non-con schedule in 2014 and came out of it 5-6 against D1 opponents. Both years the at-large discussion was over before it started. In 2015 UNI had a good but not extremely tough non-con and they went 11-1. They were a 5 seed.

The Valley hasn't been a 1 bid league since 2011.

The Valley hasn't been a 1 bid league since 2011.

Except for when it was in 2014.

And the 2nd team in 2012 and 2013 is no longer a Valley team.

So, in 1 out of the last 9 years, 2 current Valley teams have made the tournament.

Even if you include Creighton, we still just get to 3/8 or 4/9.

Please note my intent is not to blame this on UNI.

Shox game had 66 fouls called and 71 FT's shot. If games keep getting called that way, WSU will dominate FoY voting.

Shamet is looking like a more athletic and quicker version of Baker. Hamilton will remind many of Early, except he's a little more into beast mode than Early was. Taylor struggled running the offense, which isn't surprising for a Fr in game 1, but he hits shots and looks like he belongs on the court.
