Good shooting, something like 13-22 from 3-pt range. Defense was very poor. Post game was non-existent.

Abrahamson led the way with 22 points, Woodward 18 points and 8 assists, but missed 6 free throws. Timmer with 16. I don't think any of the starters played more than 25 minutes. Game was not really as close as the final score would indicate.

EMO another double double
Harris Brown Harris Brown Harris Brown

Harris Brown will be the next Colt, and DJ. He sure doesn't look like a freshman. He took 3 shots from the field, and two free throws, in 13 minutes in the second half. He has yet to miss a shot this season. Made two or three eye popping passes. If he gets the minutes, he will be in the running for FOY. If he doesn't get the minutes, Marty should be replaced on the spot.

Some nice scores today, even for exhibitions.

With FVV on the bench in a suit and tie, the starting line up was:

1. Baker
2. Shamet
3. Wessel
4. Grady
5. Morris

Second half starters were:

1. Baker
2. Shamet
3. Wessel
4. Kelly
5. Morris

Expect one of these two line-ups during the season with Fred replacing Landry as a starter.

Grady got position deep and got the ball deep any time he wanted. He converted most of those.

Kelly was much more under control this year than last. Brown bulked up a lot. These two have taken the next step.

Shamet will be very, very good in the MVC. He is very smooth. He does everything well and looked like a senior. Play of the game should have been Baker to Shamet for the ally-oop, but Wessel saw ball and did not see Shamet flying in from the wing. Wessel checked him out pretty hard.

Baker didn't look great as a PG. best player on the court as a SG.

Morris has slimmed down. He was okay.

The deep bench was the other three freshman (they played 14-19 minutes each). 6-8, 235 lb Eric Hamilton has the green light from anywhere he wants. He took advantage of the opportunity, but didn't convert. He is large, athletic, and exuberant. Reactions to Taylor on Shockernet are mixed. He is very quick with his hands and his feet. He took, and made, several ill-advised shots. McDuffie is slim, but sinewy. He plays the game like Kevin Durant (and no, he is not a little KD, just similar style and build). He has guard and forward skills. He made excellent passes and has very good handles. He drives to the hoop with ease and finishes. He's at least 6-8. He can shoot. Defense was okay. Despite all of those attributes, he did not dominate the lesser competition.

Three walk-ons combined for 25 minutes.

Grady reminds me of Carl Hall as a Senior. He plays below the rim, but converts most of his shots or gets fouled. Carl made a living doing that the Final Four year. Makes shots against bigger guys that just make you say, "How in the HELL did he even get that shot off".

And Grady is capable of going out to the 3 point line at times, although I doubt he will very often.

Gonna be a fun year I think!

The most impressive thing about the WSU team this year will be the depth. Don't know the specifics but at least 14 players played and each received nice minutes (everyone had at least 6 minutes). We played lots of combinations. Many times, Gregg substituted 5 new players. But the best example is that Grady led the team scoring with 13 points in 10 minutes of play.

Actually, everyone had at least 8 minutes (two walk-ons). Wessel and another walk-on had 9 minutes. Shamet lead all Shockers with 24 minutes. He was 3-6 from the floor, 1-2 from 3, 3-3 from FT. 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 0 TOs.

Brett Barney, the 6'9" Fr walkon will probably take a redshirt, because he can be at least a role player in the future. Not the quickest or most athletic guy. He looks more like a 6'9" guy that would be recruited by UNI or InSU.

I had season tickets sitting right beside him and his parents for 3 years. Great kid and great family.

Glad to see Marty found a player, but if Harris is used like DJ and Colt, that means 4 more years of mediocrity. You can't win running one guy through 15 screens night in and night out.

I was disappointed (but not surprised) to learn that Simmons and Wing both started and that Mislav and Wiley came off the bench. Still, too much talent in Evansville to finish below 4th.
