Bro hug time!

I only got to see the last few minutes of the game after the Aces' game, but what I saw UNI looked better way than I expected.

Washpun looked special today. That dunk was Tekele Cotton worthy. ;)

Washpun, Bohannon, Morgan, and Jesperson are very good! Need to get a big involved to make it a memorable season and not just a memorable game.
The post play is actually what won that game. Those 4 are going to get all of the headlines, and rightfully so. The reality is, though, that Ted Freidman was a HUGE reason for that win. I mean huge. He is going to be the Lucas O'Rear of this team the next three years, only 3 or 4 inches taller. He may not have scored but he was the dirving force behind shutting Meeks down after he scored the first 8 points of the game for UNC. He came in and no longer was Meeks (who is a monster) catching the ball on the block. He was 4-5 feet off the block. His block outs were a major reason for the win. A couple times his block outs were so strong the ball actually bounced before a UNI player grabbed it. If he didn't grab the offensive board he sprinted back at full speed, even if the ball was being walked up the court. He knew he needed to be in the paint shutting lanes down.

Nothing about his game is sexy, in anyway. Even Lucas has more flash to his game than Ted does. Ted will be the driving force behind the success.

Now we get a 6'7 big bodied Klint Carlson back. That will allow Jesperson to go to a more natural stretch 4 or big 3 position rather than trying to play a post 4. It will also allow for a better rotation with Koch and Ted if we need to go small and have Jesperson play the 4 again.

The CSU game wasn't great, but it's not like UNI played terribly that game. Every time UNI had momentum CSU hit some kind of crazy contested shot and pulled it back.

I don't think UNI wins the conference, but it did show that there may not be as big of a drop off from last year as almost everyone thought. I think UNI is a 22 or 23, maybe 24, regular season win team.

I saw a Sportscenter tweet that UNI is one of two teams which are undefeated against AP Poll #1 ranked teams (both 2-0). The other is CCNY.

Pretty cool fact considering the Panthers snagged both of their wins in the last decade whereas CCNY has not been D1 for eons.

Huge step up for UNI and while I hope for a W, the scenarios to pull one off are pretty narrow with everything and absolutely, everything, having to go right.

We go to North Carolina twice in return for this home game so this is a game that will help our program into the future for scheduling as well.

I am still trying to figure it out how we did that. We did not play a perfect game and we still pulled it off.

Coach Jake has seemed to have gotten these guys to buy into the team first and they just went at it as a team. Ted Friedman played probably the best 0 point scoring game in UNI history. The veterans made huge plays, led by Washpun. We only played 7 guys the entire second half. Etc. Etc. Just flat out out-willed the Tar Heels down the stretch.

I really hope we can bottle this effort and run with it all year. Can't let this be the highlight of the season.
