So, how do you explain the stat Cdizzle showed you about UNI's shot charts....

Because from your above logic, you force jump shots, which equates to less FTs by the opposition. However, you rank 15th in the NATION in 3PA/FGA. So, why are you getting "fouled" so much shooting jumpers all game long???

It can't be one way logic...

For the record, credit to StickBoy for looking that one up. I just quoted it as highly compelling.

In your 6 conference wins you have shot 69 more Free Throws than your competition.

In your 6 conference losses that drops to only shooting 16 more than your compeition.

There have only been two conference games in which the competition has shot more FT than UNI, Loyola (3 FT More), and Evansville (6 FT More). For a team that ranks 15th nationally in 3PA/FGA at 45% ... that's pretty "impressive"

That ought to do it.

Right. But my question is: It ought to do what?
1. In general, UNI's losses have been less close with 2 minutes to go than their wins. So in UNIs close wins, the opponent tried to extend the game by fouling. Racks the FTA stat.
2. Fouling and avoiding fouling is part of the game. When UNI1983 says, "I love the narrative that we shoot so many free throws." I agree, but not cuz we don't shoot a lot of free throws. Because I'm not sure why it's a "narrative" in the sense of a criticism. It's a game decided by points. Attempting FTs is a good way to get points. So do it.

The narrative is that UNI gets more FTA compared to their opponents relative to doing things that deserve receiving FTs.

12th nationally in least fouls per game. Man the refs must just love us in EVERY single game we play. Not just conference games. Oddly enough Jacobson's mentor McDermott has a team that is 9th in the country in that stat.

Maybe just maybe we have a team that knows how to play defense without fouling. A system that in meant to maximize the difference in FTA per game.

Let's look at the Loyola home game as it might be one of the best examples of our discrepancy. Loyola took 58 shots. 32 of them were 3pt shots. UNI took 55 shots 20 were 3pt shots. So Loyola was at 55% in the aforementioned stat. UNI was at 36%. The game @ Drake. Drake was at 44.6% while we were at 37.5%.

So while we may be high in general for 3PA/FGA we also force our opponents to be higher in that same % than they normally would. So that 15th in the country doesn't exactly tell the whole story.

Gee, does anybody think that the 3PA/FGA ratio would be a bit different if we weren't being fouled on so many non-3 point attempts? It's not like all of our free throws are coming because we are fouled on 3 point attempts. You get fouled on a 2-pt try it doesn't count as an attempt and doesn't figure into the ratio.

UNI has traditionally been one of the lowest fouling teams in the country. We tend not to put opponents at the line because of accumulated fouls, but we do have a pretty high percentage of our fouls being 'shooting' fouls. Don't want us shooting more free throws than you? Don't foul us.

Of course it's funny reading these comments from WSU fans who of course don't believe that the Shockers can ever lose other than because of Doug Elgin's manipulations, the NCAA having it out for them or Canadian officiating hi-jinx.

Again, this entire point you made is a two-way street. But apparently not when you want to apply it to UNI.

How so? UNI tends not to foul, period. Not going to give up a lot of free throws that way.

UNI tends to not get called for fouls. There is a GIANT difference. In fact, it's the entire point of this conversation.

Perhaps everyone else would quit jacking up so many 3s if running inside the 3pt line didn't result in bullcrap offensive fouls as Koch goes flying.

We can do this all day.

And maybe Koch wouldn't go flying if people wouldn't lower their shoulders like fullbacks.

You are right we can do this all day. :D

And Koch has fouled out of our last two games BTW. So we do get called for some fouls...

In his preview of the ISU Blue game PJ Star writer Dave Reynolds did a nice column on freshman guard Jayden Hodgson. He has been a nice surprise as the season has moved along and plays about 30 minutes a game now over the last 4-5 games.

Hopefully he and Darrell Brown are a nice back court building block for BU moving forward.
