JacobsOn.

IDGAF who if you want to fight over the better coach, at least get the guys name right.

He's the longest tenured coach in the league at 11 years.
He's been at UNI 16 years
He's won the COY 3 times
He's top 6 all time in total wins and conference wins as a head coach.

Believe Marshall is the better coach, IDGAF. I have no opinion on it. Just get his name right. It's not like he's brand new to the league.

You make it sound like Coach Jake isn't in the conversation for the best coach in the Valley. My opinion is that he is easily the best coach, especially given the talent and money that Marshall has in Wichita. If you agree with that or not isn't really the issue, to say he isn't in the conversation though, and that someone who believes he is the best coach has lost all credibility is kind of funny. You could probably take a poll right now and find that most of this board believes the best coach to reside in Cedar Falls, IA.

Easily the best coach in the Valley ... As long as you aren't counting January as part of the basketball season.

Or December.

Or when they play one of the good teams.

I'm going to defend Jake on this point. He is REALLY good at knocking off the good teams. That's something his teams excel at. He just struggles to get them to consistently beat teams that they should.

Wichita State has the ugliest cheerleaders in the Valley.

I remember when cheerleaders were the hot ones on campus. Any more they are the itty-bitty ones that didn't quite make it onto gymnastics teams. The ability to throw them up in the air and catch them is more important than looks any more.

Dance squads is where you'll find the better looking ladies, which is pretty obvious in the pics a UNI fan linked. The problem with the dance squads is that there are some ladies who can actually dance, but look very bad in spandex. I know there can't be a weight limit for the dance squads, but at least they could have a vertical leap component in the tryouts.

7? Shouldn't it only be 6? Don't you have one of them blocked?

I could bring up McLean County court logs and get a rise out of Redbird fans, but ah hell, they're used to that stuff by now.

Part of that is style. He frustrates good teams because he mucks it up and doesn't allow them to play a game that really flows and that allows inferior talent to hang and make one or two big plays that can have a huge impact. Conversely, unless the 3 ball is really falling, we allow teams to hang around and again one or two big plays can cost us a game. It's a double edged sword for sure.

The middle part of this year was an anomaly where we were getting blown out, that doesn't happen terribly often to Ben Jacobson teams. Last year had a bad start too in league play, but they weren't blowouts. Margins of those first 6 losses were 2,1, 10, 4, 10, 19 (Wichita). Totally different than this year's 4 (Down 24 at one point, but Lusk), 12, 11, 14, 11.

That's where, even as a UNI fan, I'm trying to pull back expectations a bit that this year's team is last year's team. That team was more talented and WAY more experienced. We'll know a lot more after Saturday.

This group is going to be awfully good when it's all said and done, but growing pains are a real thing right now.

:+1:

I love ranking the hotness scales of each dance team at Arch Madness during halftimes. Missouri State was always highly rated. Sugar Bears or whatever they called themselves.

So, back on topic "Who wins in St. Louis"

We all win in this scenario...

Who wins in STL:
The Shockers are playing BY FAR the best basketball in the Valley right now. I have to go with Wichita.

Best Coach:
As stated earlier by someone, coaching is also recruiting. Jacobson is good at X's and O's, but IMHO lacks in recruiting. Marshall does both well, extremely well. Advantage Marshall. (Side note, this is where Lusk and Muller get lumped in as "Bad" coaches because their X's and O's struggle. They are very good recruiters though. Almost the opposite of Jacobson)

Best looking Cheerleaders:
I will answer this after my trip to STL in two weeks.

One could argue that Jacobson is exceptional at recruiting the type of players that thrive in his system. He doesn't get the most athletic kids out there, but they do well in the team environment. They also buy into his team first and defense first system. You may not think they are the most talented, but it does take at least some talent to beat the likes of Iowa, Iowa State, North Carolina, Texas etc.
