I was going to mention that earlier but didn't want to be "that guy" this time, but yeah, it's not a rule. Never has been a rule. Never will be a rule.

People say “over the back” because they don’t want to say “they didn’t call the defensive playing for reaching and pushing the offensive player who was boxing out”

Reaching is another word that doesn't appear in a rule book.

Now, if you want to call it a push on the body, sure. Many times "over the back" calls are incorrectly called simply because it looks like the other player was "over the back"

"Faking" is in the rule book. You rules sticklers must have a real hard time watching UNI play defense.

The amount of insecurity Northern Iowa having good seasons strikes in some of you is hilarious. Guess the “UNI will have 200+ RPI down years without WSU” summer narrative has died down. Baby steps!

I meant to say “reaching over and pushing.” Basically trying to describe the foul how it’s meant to be called. Now you can see why just saying “over the back” is way easier.

It is easier to say but also constantly reinforces in people that don't know the rules that such a thing exists. It is not a penalty to be taller than your opponent and to be able to reach above them from behind and get to the ball. I watched the game last night and Minnesota was just plain bigger. As long as they are not dislodging with their lower bodies, it is fair to outreach your opponent.

I should have said a couple Minnesota players invaded the Drake players vertical plane with illegal contact.

I watched 0.0 minutes of the game so I have no clue. While it is true it is not illegal to "simply outreach" your opponent. You cannot go through said opponent to outreach them.

Do some of you really think that someone who is interested enough in basketball to post on this board doesn't have enough basketball knowledge to understand what probably constitutes a foul? I'm pretty sure there is no rule called "grabbing an arm" or "kneeing in the back" or "head butting an opponent", but I still think those actions may constitute a foul. I'm pretty certain that everybody understands that some sort of physical contact is required for a personal foul.
