The 60-something football teams from the Power 5/4/whatever just needs to break off the NCAA and away from conference affiliation and do their own thing.

Agreed. Separating football at all levels solves so many problems but somebody might make $9 less per year and we can't have stuff like that happening. How are the P4 going to afford that 3rd barber or 14th strength coach or 6th dietician if you take even a dime away from them!?!?!?

People keep saying this is going to put some undue burden on schools like Oregon, UCLA and USC. Honestly, go look up their non-revenue sports schedules and compare them against the B1G and who has had the bigger burden (and will continue to).

Oregon baseball played 63 games this year, and played exactly ZERO non-conference games out of state. They played a total of 23 games out of state (all league, conf tourney and NCAA). Yes, I am sure they don't like the added expense, but welcome to the reality of DI athletics, Duckies.

For USC and UCLA people need to keep in mind that 5 out of 8 football conference games will be in LA. For UW and UO 5 out of 8 games will be in the PNW. Assuming those 4 schools play each other each season, your looking at at a minimum of 6 conference games on the west coast.

Basketball will be where most of the travel is. 11 out of 20 for USC and UCLA will be in LA. Got to assume that 13 out of 20 will be on the west coast.

The existing 14 B1G schools will likely have to make 1 trip out west for football annually. In basketball probably around 2 or 3 max.

I'm not convinced that the travel is going to be as bad as most people think. Plus the extra $$$ is going to pay for that easily.

For baseball and softball, it could end up being helpful for scheduling. Have a heavy west coast schedule early in the season when it's still basically winter in the midwest, and then have a heavy midwest schedule later in the conference season.

The issue for traveling is for sports that aren't football, especially ones that cost money. Tennis, wrestling, track and field, etc. They don't get the attention or resources that football and maybe basketball do.

Exactly. Football, MBB, WBB and Volleyball are going to be fine because everything will be chartered.

It's the tennis team flying commercial from Eugene to Happy Valley that's screwed.

I do think they can really do some unique scheduling in 4 teams going to one place as a tournament or a number of games. Instead of 9 sites having games on a weekend, it could be 4-5 sites having games and then going to another place the next weekend. It may make for less home games, but it could be beneficial in playing one another.

After falling 1 vote short at 11/15 last week, Stanford has countered with an offer to take significantly reduced shares. Condoleeza Rice is heavily involved and pushing hard for the ACC to add Stanford.

The Bush family is also heavily involved in realignment as they are pushing hard for the ACC to add SMU. SMU has offered to forego years of media rights distributions to punch their ticket.

Maybe. I feel bad for the student athletes no matter what.

Condoleezza Rice’s and George & Laura Bush’s in-roads appear to be paying off as momentum is now building towards Cal/Stanford/SMU joining the ACC. A performance-based financial model from the $72 million added from those 3 via ESPN’s pro-rata clause looks to be enough to flip 1 of the 4 ‘No’ votes.
