What needs to happen is all MVC teams that want to play football at the FCS level should be in their own league and join the summit league for hoops. If they want to try and be MAC wannabes and do FBS football then have at it. The rest of the league should focus on hoops and recruit other schools who feel the same way to join.

Not sure how this would work or if it’s sustainable but they could all move up as Independents. Back in the day there used to be a ton of Indies through the late 90s/early aughts. Leave with a scheduling agreement with the other schools which should make it easier to fill out the rest of the schedule.

Personally (ND football fan so speaking from a weird position) I would prefer to stay FCS where the Valley has had great success being in contention for and winning National Championships. Would think being at the top of the FCS is more attractive for branding and potential recruits than moving up where they most likely won’t have a dream chance of making the playoff, even if the B1G SEC thing doesn’t happen.

I think a lot of programs have made hasty jumps or moves in recent years, fearing they will get left behind.

At this point, I think it makes more sense for schools like the MVFC schools to wait and see how the landscape shakes out at the top over the next few years.

It would be very easy to find yourself in a conference that is a geographic stretch, and competitively not that much better than if you would have stayed put. There is just too much volatility to know what it would mean to be in CUSA vs. MFVC in the next few years.

In theory, you would think so. But, kids want to play FBS. Even low FBS is better for branding and recruiting unless you're literally NDSU. 1/2 games on ESPN 2 is more appealing to the players.

I'm pretty sure you can't move up to be an independent. You have to have an invite to a conference.
