The morning after Lowery-style? Holy cow.

Who had Bryan Mullins getting fired before Dana Ford a week ago?

According to Gottlieb, Mullins almost took an assistant job under Porter Moser at Oklahoma after Domask and Jones transferred last year. So supposedly he highly considered preemptively running off.

Big surprise. Pretty rare for coaches in this league to get dismissed without sitting in the basement of the standings for a few years (e.g. Phelps, Muller). Mullins finished in the bottom four spots just once in five years.

In retrospect, it might have been a good idea. I'm sure he can find an assistant coaching job at a P5 if that's what he wants to do next.

I know it didn't go how anyone affiliated with SIU wanted it to go, but it was his first time in the big chair and he wasn't a complete s*** show. However, patience isn't what it used to be.

Now a lot of the buzz is around Kyle Smithpeters. I was one of the folks who wanted to retain Mullins for at least another season, but if Kyle is the guy, I would be fine with it.

On behalf of Racer fans, you guys should poach Steve Prohm from Murray State. He’s the best coach in The Valley. You’ll be so glad you hired him. We’ll be even happier. Do it. Please hire Steve Prohm.

11-minute interview with SIU AD that’s worth listening to
https://www.1035espn.com/episode/listen ... 0oSWanz538

He clearly spells out that he wants someone with HC experience (doesn’t matter the level) and not someone who has to learn on the job. That would rule out assistants who haven’t been a HC.
