UNI is crushing Iowa, Iowa State, and Drake for the top players in Iowa right now.
Well the best player in the 2014 IA class who held offers from UNI and Creighton committed to Drake. I would say that the longer Giacoletti is here the better Drake is going to do in in-state recruiting.
Currently have offers out there but both went elsewhere
Reed Tellinghuisen who has offers from Albany, Belmont, SDSU, NDSU, and UN-O...he picked SDSU
Nate Gehring - Truman State, MN State Mankato, Albana, SDSU, Ppperdine (accepted), Northern Colorado, Oakland, South Dakota, Colgate, Miami (OH), North Dakota, North Dakota State, Toledo
Really pulling in big time recruits I see.
In all fairness, Drake didn't lose out on either Gehring or Tellinghuisen.....both of those guys committed elsewhere after Drake already had five commitments for their five open spots....so, Drake wasn't recruiting them anymore.
I think that Drake wanted Gehring early on, and wanted him to commit early. From what I hear, he liked Drake, but wanted to hold out for bigger offers.....by the time he realized that he wasn't going to get any big time offers, Drake's class was full.
UNI has been more committed to getting Iowa kids than Drake (or Iowa and Iowa State) has for many years, and that long-term commitment to Iowa kids will serve them well in the future in getting more Iowa kids. Giacoletti and his staff are trying to implement a similar strategy, but obviously Jake and his staff have a head start. Luckily, there are more solid players in Iowa now than there were 10-15 years ago, so hopefully there are enough for both schools.
