UNI grabs JUCA AA PG

Postby uniftw » April 27th, 2016, 8:33 am

Out of nowhere last night the starting PG from Kirkwood CC, Hunter Rhodes, announced he committed to play at UNI. Kirkwood is where Ali played. They also were in the JUCO national title game this past year.

Hunter is 6' 180lbs.

He averaged 14 ppg 4 APG (5:1 A:TO) and 3 RBG. He shot 46% from the floor (126-277), 45% from three (58-131) and 78% from the free throw line (131-169). He did that while playing just 21 mpg.

UNI has 2 rides open right now, but no word if he's a preferred walk on or scholarship. If he's a scholarship UNI will bank the other scholarship and probably means that Miasha Dailey is a no go for UNI. He apparently had interest from a couple other MVC schools.

I'd bet he plays right away. That gives UNI 3 PG this year. Seems to allow rFr Spencer Haldeman to play off the ball a bit.

Confirmed he's on full ride.

I'd have to imagine he fights for the starting spot and doesn't red-shirt.

Rhodes grew up and played his HS ball about 25 minutes from Peoria in Canton, IL. He has been a much discussed player among Bradley fans. Some wanted him. Some saw him as a walk on. Brian Wardle did meet with him but only offered a preferred walk on spot. It will be really interesting to see how his game translates to the MVC level.

Not sure.

He plays right away. From people who watched Kirkwood they said he was a distributor first, but he would take games over when needed. I think he is the back up but plays 20ish minutes a game behind McLoud

He sounds exactly like what the coaching staff thought Robbie Knarr would be before he tore his ACL twice in two years

We still have one ride open as this is taking Robbie's ride. It will be banked for next year so we will have two rides next year after Jeremy Morgan graduates.

Looks like the scholarship will still be open for the following season, but this year will be used by 6'4 grad transfer Jordan Ashton (Iowa State). He'll be a defensive-specialist type of role player and give Morgan some rest when Jeremy gets into foul trouble. Many Panther fans are wondering what this move means for incoming wing, Isaiah Brown from Texas and whether we'd actually have 12 guys rotate in, or does Brown redshirt (and sit through an Iowa winter :? )
[Insert snappy comeback]

Negtaive percent change you bring a kid from Flower Mound, TX (North side of Dallas) and force him to redshirt. Especially when he's the same size J-Mo was when he came in, but already more polished on offense and more athletic. Just doesn't happen.

Better left for a topic on the main forum but I bet there isn't a single player averaging over 30 mpg this year.
