Shanquan "Tank" Hemphill, a 6'6" forward from UW-Green Bay is transferring to Drake.

Averaged 11.7 ppg and 5.5 rpg in 2018-19 before sitting out last season with an injury.

Originally from Gary, IN, he played juco ball with the Murphy twins and DJ Wilkins and his juco coach was current Drake assistant coach Marty Richter.

Not much of a perimeter game, but the young man can absolutely jump out of the gym.

Good pickup; given his background should mesh nicely with other Drake players. A bit undersized for a 4, but athletic and can guard at the 3 and 4 and is proven at D-1 level. No perimeter shot and only shot 47% on a 147 foul shots [ouch]. With T Murphy gives Drake a pair of veteran 6'6 athletic forwards.

Yeah, definitely not a perimeter threat. He might be undersized for a 4, but I'll take a 6'6" guy who plays like he's 6'9" any day.

Sounds like he spent a good portion of his redshirt season working on his shot. Will be interesting to see if he can hit an occasional 3 to keep defenses honest.

With him, Murphy, spring recruit Bryceson Burns, Issa Samake lRS-Fr) and Nate Ferguson (RS-Fr), this will be by far the most athletic front line Drake has had in many, many years.

Undersized 4 players with big bodies can thrive in the Valley. Just look at Jashon Henry on Bradley. He's probably not much bigger than 6'4 or 6'5, but is well built and can jump. Good get for Drake to help replace the loss of Robbins.

Man that Marty Richter hire sure paid off with players. Is Florida SW finally out of guys who played for him there?

Unless there’s another grad transfer from FSW out there, that’s it for Richter’s former players.
