Benson had offers from a plethora of MVC teams including SIU, Loyola, Bradley, Illinois St and perhaps future MVC Murray St. , and SLU as well. The 6'7 , 220 player had a big summer and on Sept 22, the Chicago Sun Times described Benson as " a breakout player over the offseason. A "must have midmajor prospect". Rated the #5 player in Illinois, they further said, " while still a bit unrefined, he's an athletic big man who rebounds, blocks shots, finishes around the rim and plays with a motor. Ford putting together a long athletic frontline for the future with 3 2022's and a 2023 commit to date.
