Non-Con Awards

Postby Wufan » December 24th, 2012, 10:27 am

POY: Doug McDermott

First Team: Jackie Carmichael, Jake Odum, Carl Hall, Desmar Jackson.
Notable: Tyler Brown - I like his game, but Ill St didn't put up the 10-2 or 11-1 record they should have; whereas Ind St, SIU, and WSU overachieved their projection. I imagine that Ill St would still be 9-3 even if Brown wasn't there.

NCOY: Desmar Jackson

All-Newcomer Team: Cleanthony Early, Manny Arop, Tyshon Pickett, Richard Carter
Notable: Freshman DJ Ballentine is doing his best Colt Ryan impersonation.

FOY: DJ Ballentine

All-Freshman Team: Anthony Beane, Khristian Smith, Kaza Keane, Ron Baker
Notable: Marcus Marshall. MSU gets no awards for their non-con performance. It's hard to tell how many players are sitting the bench on other Valley teams right now that could average 10+ per game for MSU.

Did you really ignore a guy putting up 23 pts and 6 rebounds a game all while shooting 54 from the field and 50 from 3?

Or a guy who has a 6.3 assist to TO ratio?

Did you even try and read my post? First three words: "POY: Doug McDermott."

He did not make my top 6 but he would make my top 10. GG is the third best player on his team (possibly second). I do not think he would be the best player on Ill St, Ind. St, WSU, or even SIU. It is possible he would be the best player on UNI.

Very good list. Hard to argue with any of your selections.

Somehow I did miss it. That is my bad. Looks like a good list.

Another freshman to watch is Drake's Micah Mason. He's currently 2nd in the country in 3-pt shooting % at 60+%. He played very little earlier in the season, but has now moved into the starting lineup.

Grant Gibbs is good, but I don't think he's one of the top 5 players. The modest scoring and acceptable rebounding knock him down a notch. The 6.3:1 is impressive, but won't last. Look for him to finish as an HM with a fantastic 4:1 ratio.

1st team
McDermitt(Creighton),Odum(IN St),Brown(IL St),Carmicheal(IL St),& Hall(Wichita St)

Brown has better numbers then the kid from Southern IL(Jackson) and IL St has played a much better schedule then SIU. IL St has the 49th ranked schedule and SIU has played the 292nd according to rpi.com. IL St also probably looses at Drexel without Brown. He hit the tying 3 in OT then hit the shot to give them the lead they would never lose. He finished with 20 points. He's the best 2G in the Valley IMO.
