Winning always makes you feel better, but those scrimmages are fairly meaningless.

Winning always makes you feel better, but those scrimmages are fairly meaningless.

Wouldn't call them meaningless or no one would do them.

Just posting results. Sure you can't take a ton from the score just like exhibitions. But it shows UNI has a lot to work on, just like the Shox and everyone else.

From what I heard Wisconsin ran their normal rotation and UNI ran the younger guys most of the time.

Wisconsin in a top 10 team and IF UNI ran a rotation of mostly the freshman/sophomores I'mt not really that concerned. Even if it was a full on game I'm not too concerned in the first weekend of November about a team with a ton of freshman struggling against a top 10 team.

They also posted stats for the games for a few players

redshirt senior and 35 game starter last season Zak Showalter played 25 minutes and was 4-4 from deep in 25 min

Senior 34 game starter last season Vitto Brown scored 15 points on 4-5 from deep in 23min

Alex Illikainen, who played in 33 games last season had 14 points on 4-5 from deep in 16min

Jordan Hill, who played in 30 games lastse ason and shot 37% from deep had 13 points on 3-5 from deep 18min


Maybe UNI can't defend the three. Maybe UW was just hot as hell. 15-19 on 3 pointers from 4 guys will swing a game into something it's not in terms of score pretty quick.

UNI has a very young team. UNI does have a lot to work on. I'm not too concerned about the score of a scrimmage, especially when you see those kind of 3 point shooting % from the other team.

Because you use these to get better as a whole. Or at least it sounds like Jake and Marshall do. You play everyone and focus a lot on the new guys as they're the ones you really need to evaluate. You gotta find out how they play with others and what they need to do to get better. You get that in a regular practice, but I think it's a lot more clear when you're doing things against those who don't know exactly what you're doing.

ISU beat Quincy 84-62. McIntosh looked really good as did Paris Lee. Both will be on All-conference teams. Young/new guys all showed promise and some mistakes like you'd expect. Madison Williams will be our best freshmen and help back up the 1 and 2 spots. Not much muscle out there so will have to rely on positioning and athleticism for rebounds. Coach got to experiment with lots of lineup combinations and the young/new guys got to play a lot. Bad news is big man David Ndiaye is out 6 weeks with stress fracture in right foot.

Jake knows what he's getting from J-Mo, Klint, Wyatt, Jordan Ashton, and Koch.

He doesn't know how rotations involving Isaiah Brown, Juwan McCloud, Hunter Rhodes, Justin Dahl, Ted Freidman, Spencer Haldeman and Luke McDonnell will shake out in game settings or against top competition. We saw what J-Mo, Klint and Wyatt can do in pressure situations. J-Mo had 36 points, 12 boards, 2 assits, 2 blocks and 3 steals against TAMU with him carrying 90 % of the load for the game. Wyatt stepped in in OT and nailed a stone cold assassin style three pointer. Bennett is going to get his points and boards. Klint? Klint might be the second most valuable player on the team. Jake doesn't need to see those guys to know they can play against the Wisconsin level players of the world. They've been to back to back NCAA tournaments, have a conference tournament title, beating multiple top 5 ranked teams, wins in back to back NCAA tournaments, have made the various all conference lists.

There's not much to gain from rolling them out there for 25 or 20 minutes other than injury risk.

Trial by fire. Want to know how good Isaiah Brown is on the wing or Juwans decision making? Match him up out there with a top 10 team and let it rip. Figure out what needs to be coached and coach it. It's why, if you'd watch the Bemidji State exhibition, you'd have seen some real odd line ups and rotation patterns. I think at one point we may have had 6'11 Koch and 6'11 Dahl on the court together for a short time. Why? See how they play together. I think there was also a time where the biggest player on the court was 6'7 Klint Carlson.
